A Container Freight Station (CFS) is a facility where freight is consolidated or de-consolidated and prepared for the next stage of its journey.
Similar to ACH, most CFS facilities are strategically located near key entry points like airports, ocean container ports, and major rail hubs.
Common uses include automated order fulfillment and aggregating low-volume stock from multiple locations to optimize inventory management and meet customer demand efficiently.
A bonded CFS warehouse is a temporary storage facility authorized by Customs & Border Protection to hold imported and exported goods under a customs bond.
This allows shipments to be stored before customs clearance, enabling deferral of fees and duties—sometimes for up to five years, depending on the warehouse type. Unlike Free Trade Zone warehouses, CFS warehouses have shorter storage periods but remain essential in both ocean and air freight logistics.
